Website submission

Hello visitor and welcome to my BizMeet blog.   I am a website developer by trade so I will be sharing some tips of the trade with you on a regular basis.

I will begin with a tip that I know everyone is interested to know about - SEO.  If you don’t know what SEO stands for, I will tell you because it’s an abbreviation that everyone should learn if their business is being represented on the web.  It stands for Search Engine Optimization.  Search Engine Optimization helps your website to climb to the top of the google search engine results. It’s worthwhile for all people to learn the basics of SEO because just knowing a little bit about it can make a big difference.
Firstly, a little bit of background: how do search engines work?  A search engine needs to catalogue where every website is and to know the information that is stored on each site.   This is an ongoing process: a search engine like Google sends little mini programs called “bots” on the internet to gather information on all the websites.  They also check if any updates have been made to the site since the last time the website was visited.  Using this data, search engines can respond to what people are searching for and to know where to direct them when they click on a link.
* Google loves websites that are updated regularly because it means that the site is active and therefore it is likely to have upto date information on it.

Today’s Tip: Submit your site to search engines

So now you know that search engines make regular visits to your website.  But that’s only true if the search engines know that your site exists.  So you have to tell them about your website, this is called “Search engine submission“.  So begin by telling the top 3 search engines about your site, Google, Yahoo, MSN.  Go to the following links and submit your site:

http://www.google.com/addurl
http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html
http://search.msn.com.sg/docs/submit.aspx
In part 2, I will  be talking about  “tags” and how they can help you to market your website to a target audience.
